CUSTODIAL INTERNSHIP

A total of four classes participate in the custodial internship this year. We have three alternate classes participating: two are 12:1:1 classes with middle and high school students who have intellectual disability; and the third is a 6:1:1 class with high school students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We also have one 12:1:1 standardized class with high school students who have ASD participating as well.

There are two collection times everyday for one period: 9:00am after breakfast and 1:00pm after snack. Two classes work each shift—one class in the Main Building and one class in the North Building. The interns travel with their teacher and paraprofessional as they collect trash and recyclables from all classrooms and offices.

Students are expected to knock on the door and greet staff and/or students before entering the room. Their responsibilities include emptying trash cans into a trash bag, replacing used trash bags with new ones, collecting and sorting recyclables, cleaning spills; and taking trash bags outside to the curb.
