MIGHTY MILERS

Also known as Rising New York Road Runners is designed to develop movement skills in kids of all ages and abilities through a mix of running and fitness activities. Here, kids build confidence, gain motivation, and fuel their desire to stay active.

CHAMPS

CHAMPS Sports and Fitness Program (CHAMPS) stands for Cooperative, Healthy, Motivated, and Positive Students. The program is run by the DOE’s Office of School Wellness Programs (OSWP). The CHAMPS Middle School program allows schools (with grades 6, 7, and/or 8) the opportunity to offer students a wide variety of before- or after-school activities, including traditional sports (e.g., basketball, tennis, baseball), non-traditional sports (e.g., golf, fencing, flag rugby) and fitness activities (e.g., yoga, fitness clubs, dance). In addition to school-based programs, CHAMPS hosts a citywide league and student centered events throughout the year. The Office of School Wellness Programs covers the per session cost for teacher-coaches, in addition to providing some equipment and mentoring opportunities (dependent on activity, availability and need).

BASKETBALL

Our Varsity Basketball team plays in the District 75 City Wide Alternate League which begins in the Spring term of each year. Our team is the only school in the city to have a co-ed team. In the 2016 season, we were the Brooklyn-Queens division champions and we finished second in the City Championships. Our students are looking forward to defending their title.

STEP AHEAD

Step Ahead - Summer Transition Education Program – High School Students are tasked with a service learning challenge where they plan, develop and present a Visual Display showing the process of developing a Campaign and Public Service Announcement as a way of taking informed action toward a Human Rights Issue which they care about.

SUMMER YOUTH

Summer Youth Employment Program – Is a NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Lottery system for High School Students and Young Adults (ages 14-21) to have summer employment: Youth can be selected to the program via two options, through a lottery or direct recruitment by an SYEP provider to specialized programming. DYCD will conduct a lottery to select participants to the program. There will be more than one lottery to ensure that all seats in the program are filled. If you are selected by the lottery you will be contacted via the email address and/or phone number you provide in your application. As a 14-15 year old youth you will participate in a paid project-based learning experience that will provide enriching career exploration, emphasize work- readiness, help foster leadership and develop numerous skills. Activities will take place for 15 hours a week for six weeks in July and August and participants will receive up to a $700 stipend based on their attendance and participation.

You must be: 14-15 years old as of July 8th, reside within the five boroughs of New York City

As a 16-24 year old youth you will participate in a work based experience that will match your interests and provide enriching career exploration, help foster leadership, networking and develop numerous skills. Youth will earn the New York State minimum wage of $15.00 an hour and may work up to 25 hours per week for six weeks in July and August.

You must be: 16-24 years old as of July 8th, reside within the five boroughs of New York City be legally allowed to work in the United States
