GET READY TO LEARN (GRTL)
Get Ready To Learn is a research daily preparatory classroom yoga curriculum created to optimize classroom performance for young children and staff members.
Get Ready To learn uses the old practice of yoga and incorporates current educational plus therapeutic strategies such as Responsive To Intervention RTI, Positive Behavior Intervention supports PBIS and sensory-motor processing through a developmentally based, tiered program.
- The 5 part Get Ready To Learn Program:
- Centering-This is transitioning time when everyone (staff and students) sit quietly, settle down and turn their focus inward.
- Breathing- Specific breathing exercises help to direct and regulate the flow of energy through the body.
- Postures- A bunch of physical movements which "warm up" the body and help to prepare muscles and mind for physical activities.
- Deep Relaxation- This helps to release any held stress and shift the brain into states where new learning can occur.
- Circle of song- The program ends with a call and response song. Using repeated song versus encourages vocalization and helps even the shyest student to find their voice.
Here at P12X Lewis and Clark school Get Ready To Learn is done on a daily basis students can move through the program at their own (if necessary supported) pace however all participants follow along the same continuum. The first Get Ready To Learn sequence is made to build mind-body or self to self-connections for our children.
